The Pearl

The book that I chose to read during my recovery was "The Pearl" by the dead author John Steinbeck. I liked the book a lot because of it has a powerful story with a great plot and strong message to the person reading it. The book show us how ambition can make men blind, tearing apart families and creating conflicts among society. I really recommend everybody to read it if they have some freetime.

What to do when your unable to move around.

After my experience on my trip to Salinas, I decided to make a little list on the things to do when you can not enjoy your short vacations due to physical problems: first getting your homework done is the best idea ever, after that you feel tons of weight out of our body, second: reading a book, this can improve your vocabulary and knowledge, third and final: watching a movie in company of your little cousin, this taught me some tips in how to keep calm and control a kid :P, I think that afterall my frustrated carnival was not bad at all at least know I know whot to manage my little cousin, YEAH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Pain after fun

Like I mentioned on my last blog, I went to the beach with my family to celebrate the carnival. At first the whole trip to Salinas was like almost five hours, but after getting there we had fun, we to eat, took a little bit of sun, bought a bunch of fish, crabs, lobsters to take home to cook couse my family is a huge fan of seafood. Everything was alright untilthe next day when I woke up and was not able to move because all of my body hurt so much from the long trip that i had to stay in bed for the next two days, not going anywhere and getting people wet!! so unfair!! :(

Worst traffic ever.

My family to celebrate the carnival decided to go to salinas for the weekend. We woke up on Sunday getting reading and packing our foods for the trip everything was going great until we hit traffic, I mean TRAFFIC, it was horrible!!! to see all cars and the heat were making us changing the decision of going, but at the end we did not. Just to get to the the toll it took us like 4 hours!!! when normally in forty minutes at the most you get there, after paying it only took like an hour with twenty minutes to finally reach our destination, luckily we had fun so we forgot that "great" event.

Taking actions over piracy.

Piracy has become a great business in our country, not only because is cheaper, but also because of the many titles and variaties of movies that we can find. Many actions are been taken from the police side, because as consumer it benefits us saving us a couple of dollars, but the owners of those productions dont see a penny of their work. Only yesterday while taking a walk around Malecon I saw all these people and store owners running and closing their stores because cops were coming to get their merchandise, I can't say anything against the actions taken by the police because is the fair thing to do, but it makes me sad cause I am big consumer of this market.

Back problems related to computer use

Is very clear that computers have helped our lives is saving time, communication, business, but at the same time it is very harmfull if is not use with coution, spending too much time sitting down can cause us chronic back problems because of been in one position for so long and not resting moving around. This article gives some interesting tips in how to keep ourselves in good shape if we are constantly in the computer/internet area.

Kosher Food

Nowadays people seen to worry a lot of what they are eating, always looking for new foods that will satisfying them and at they same time keep them on shape. Kosher food is a great alternative for people in this search, but what is Kosher food? is the typical Jewish cuisine, which is base on fruits, saltines/sugar cracerks, pasta, beef, turkey meat and salads. In this diet is practically impossble to find chicke lasagna or a chicken sandwich, a cheese burger and even worse pork because of the stricit code that the Jewish follow called Cashrut, that tells whta foods to be avpit in order to keep a clean heart, soul and mind.

Anna Nicole Smith RIP

Wow, Is so impressive to see how many people involve in the entertaiment industry, not only in Hollywood, but around the world, are dying this year. Not only last month we lost about four important icons and last week was the turn of the famous model-actress Anna Nicole Smith who became popular during the 90s for possing for a well known adult's magazine and because of her big scandals. Anna Nicole had a very interesting, as well as tragic life. Last year she won the big court fight that she was having with the son of her ex husband, who was 90 years old at the time they good married, but passed away a year later, folliwing this event was gthe death of her son related to drug abussed after she gave birth to daughter and getting married. Very sad to see how a young woman's life can ended up like this, hope she finds peace wherever she is.

"The Passion of Christ"

Yesterday night as I was going through my uncle's movies I found the famous "The Passion of Christ", when it came out I didnt put so much atention on it, but people were talking a lot about on how good was it and how much it made them cry, so I decided to watch it. To be honest I didnt like the movie at all!!! is just to much violence and torture!!! the movie is basically describes in how to tortured someone and what each weapon does to the body, I didnt even finish watching instead I changed it to "The Ten Commadements" with Charton Heston, Thats a Great movie with a message of love and peace and also showing the beauty of God and his power. God is not about violence is about love, care, tolerance, pardon, peace, tender, sweetness, kindness, I can name all the articles in the world, but still it wont describe his greatness.

Surgery for Graduation!!!

Not so long ago every student in our country on the day of him/her graduation from highschool was expecting to get the long waited senior ring as a present from his/her parents, but as time goes by these customs tend to change. Now the most preciated gift that a graduated wants is SURGERY!!! (comestic one, of course) to correct what they call an "imperfection" of their body or to enlarged certain part of it to be more sexy. I read an article that talks about this situation a week agon and all I have to say is that is so sad to see how people dont feel happy and secure of what they are!, I mean for some reason God created us the way we are/look, we are already perfect as we are!!! we dont need to change anything. People should have more confidence and be happy woth themselves, appereacnce is not always what counts, actions are.

"Volver"

Okay so I did have some free time this afternoon to watch "Volver" the latest film of Spanish director Pedro Almodovar and this is my little review about it. First I have to say that it was not what I was expecting, I mean after reading all of the comments and opinions on how excellent was the movie I thought it will be better, not saying that the movie is bad it has a great plot and excellent casting, but compared to his past movies is not that great. It still makes a good movie to be watched with family or with your mom becuase its main topic is based on daughter-mother relationship.

The OSCAR!!!

So the Oscar Awards are coming, I am not really into them, but I am very excited to see how much diversity they are having this year with the nominations!!!!!!!!!! this is so good because it opens the door to other countrys productions to be awarded not just the Hollywoods productions. I watched "Babel" already and I think it deserves every nomination, today if I have some free time I will be watching "Volver" and see how is it!!!!

Congress and the people

This past days the main thing going on in our country is the problem that is causing the congress' decision in trying to block the call to vote for "la constituyente" (sorry dont know who to say it in english) . Okay if we are living in democracy, the people are the ones with the choice to vote on what they believe is better for them and not any group of congress men, that supposely are the "representatives of the people", should stop them. What is worrying me the most is the consecuences that this decision can bring, lets do what we the people of our nation choose, before voilence takes over.

Just plain cruelty

Okay just right the news were showing how a nurse in some country of Europe used to put tape on the babies mouth that were born at the hospital that she worked and was "taking care of." This is just so cruel!!!! im so frustrated, I cant believe how this kind of this can be happening!!! and worse when the victims can't even defend themself!!!!! this "lady" no, this CRIMINAL should be put in jail for the rest of her life!!!!! and her excuse was...the noise, whatever!!!! she knew what her work was about and thanks to another intern that used a cellphone to videatape this act she was arrested.

Stores taking action against Anorexia

I found yesterday by reading the newspaper that many Spanish stores and important brands of this countrys fashion industry are taking action in fitting anorexia by not letting the use of maneques with less than the size of 38 and clothes with sizes of 46 not to be put aside with the denomination of "plus sizes." I think this is a great step that everyone who is involved in this industry should take because many young girls are dying an example of this are the deaths of many proffesional models in the past few months. Media should stop promoting "the more skynnier, the better" instead they should teach and incitate young girls and boys too on how to eat better and exercise, not starving to death.

DaVinci Code

Yesterday afternoon I watched "The DaVinci Code" the movie was okay, pretty interesting, different plot, but people should be a little more careful when they talk about religion in their projects (movies, book, articles) because everybody has a different point of view in what they belief and some can fell offended with this kind of productions, Im not saying that they should be prohibited, just be more careful when pointing to this subjects.

Christiane F.!!!!

Christiane F. the title of my favorite movie of all times! mainlyy because it is about a a true story about this young german girl, Christiane, who gets involved in the world of drugs (heroin) just because of curiosity falling in the hell of prostitution, addiction, and also death around her with just the age of thirteen. I like this movie alot because it shows us the reality that we are living right now even when the movie was made like thirty years ago, but thanks to God right now she is a clean woman who talks to young ones about her life experience. Another important thing of making it my favorite is because my favorite artist David Bowie was the producer of the sountrack and hes also in one part of the movie where he was playing in a concert, so here you have a great plot and sound!

Guadalupe Larriva.

On thrusday morning whenever I was waking up i heard the terrible news that our minister of defense Miss Guadalupe Larriva, her daughter and other five members of the military died in a tragic accident when they were flying to Manta. I think this is so sad because putting politics aside and all those stuff, we lost not only the life of this woman, but also of the militars and her daughter, who was starting to live, serving our country. Many people, probably right at this momment, are thinking about revenge and who is guilty or not, this is just very dirrespecfull to the memory of all the ones we have lost (we, because we are all brothers and somehow this affects all of us), first learn to be more human and then do the job.

Berserk!

Okay yesterday I finishined watching the anime called Berserk, a japanese cartoon, the whole serie is of 26 episodes and I jsut have to say that I was fascinated!!! that went straight from the first chapter until the end. It is set during the mediavel times, it tells the story of a man that because of wanting to make his ambition and dream of becoming king, starts a great numbers of war without caring for the lives for his so called "friends" and the lives of other, the end is very impressived, it shows how man can be blinded by the force of power and ambition that they are capable of turning evil in order to reach them.

"T.V."

Today I was reading this interesting article on the newspaper, I can't remember the authors name right now, but hes has a column in El Universo where he puts his opinion about the media around us. I like what he wrote on todays column, he was talking about that as time goes by technology grows and how the tv screens are getting bigger in size, but the show decreasing in culture and information, fulling their public with just trash instead of cultural programs that there used to be in the past. I have to be agree with him because everytime I put the tv on the only thing that I watch is just girls dancing half naked, talk shows where beat each other up, programs where the only goal is to put down the image of certain celebrity etc.

Racism on TV shows?

Indian actress Shilpa Shetty was given a humilliating treatment while on a reality show in England, member s of the same show are accused of calling her "the indian", making fun of her accent, skin colour, of wanting to be white for bleaching her hair and ginving bad comments on her country's food, this of course infuriated the Indian community that lives there and now they are taking action towards this attitudes. "Babel"

Yesterday before going to bed I watched the movie "Babel", which I bought last weekend, but did not have enoguh time to watch it until yesterday night. Very, very interesting and great plot, the story relates on how 3 different families from different continents live, but somehow are connected to each other.

Correa's Presidential Ceremony

Yesterday before heading to school, I had some time left to watch the presidential ceremony, I liked it a lot because Correa instead of wearing the required atire for the ocassion he chose an indigenous one. The whole ceremony, decorations and rituals were very ethnical, proper from our culture. This shows how proud our new president is of his roots and not afraid in showing them to the world, something that not every new elected president would do. Hopefully this new man in power will take us to prosperity and compromised to the people.

Apocalypto

This weekend i watched the lastest production of actor/directo Mel Gibson, Apocalypto. In my opinion the movie was not that "amazing" is quite interesting and entertening. The language spoken is indigenous, but I dont know from what culture. The plot is about a tribe that was attacked by another one and the main character, who was taken as a prisoner, tries to survive finding his way back home where he hid his pregnant wife and kid from his captors.

Strangers with Candy, the movie.

Today I finally got the movie, of the funniest series I have ever seen, "Strangers with Candy." Basically the movie has the same plot as the series, Jerry a 46 year old woman, who decides to go back to highschool, after years of been into prostitution, drugs and of course jail, but this time she has a mission, waking up her father from the coma he is. The movie is not as good as the series, however, if you have some freetime and want to laugh, this will be a good choice.

Two leyends gone in one day.

As I was reading the newspaper I found out thet two important entertaiment figures died this past tuesday. Actress Yvonne De Carlo more known by the public as Lily of the famous tv-show "The Munsters," who died at the age of 84 and the Italian director Carlo Ponti. Ponti was an icon in the movie industry of his native country, he died at the age of 94 and was married to Sophia Loren.

Scooby Doo's creator died this past monday.

As I was going throught the internet I found out that Iwao Takamoto creator of the famous cartoon Scooby Doo died this past monday January the 8th, 2007 at the Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles from a massive coronary. Mr. Takamoto worked for Disney and Hanna-Barbera Productions, he's responsible for the character design of astro, the dog from the Jetsons family and Penelope Bistop. Some of his work also includes Cinderella, Peter Pan, Sleeping beauty, 101 Damatians and Lady and the Tramp where he worked as an animator while still at the Disney Company. Led Zeppelins "Untitled" album.

Ok, before writing on what Im supposed to, I have to say this is the my first time having a blog and posting things online, but hopefully by doing this I'll be able to improve mys English skills :). So today as I was going throught my things, I put the so called #4 album of Zeppelin, for some people this is the best work of the band and the same with the song "Stairway to heaven" that comes in it. In my opinion the album is excellent, the music, guitar riffs, vocals are awesome, but I cant be agree in saying that it's the best of them ("Houses of the holy" is my choice), for me the best track in it's "when the levee breaks," probably because it's more elaborated, complicated and deeper making it my favorite song by the band. All I have to say is that if you are looking for real and good music to listen to, get this album, and make your own conclusions ( It will probably become your favorite one, who knows), this is just my personal point of view.
